Total Final Energy Consumption

The energy intensity of the Ukrainian economy is three to four times higher than the average in the European Union. Industry and commerce consume more than 40% of energy sources. Energy efficiency and rational use of energy is one of the main directions of Ukraine's "green" energy transition and remains a constant priority of the Government. Germany is among the countries with the highest energy efficiency.

CO₂ Emissions per Capita

Ukraine and Germany have pledged themselves to reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions as well as to other climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. Ukraine is putting efforts into reducing its primary energy and carbon intensity in order to correspond to the average of the 27 countries of the European Union.

Share of RES generation (of gross electricity generation)

As a leading country of energy transition, Germany is sharing its lessons learned with Ukraine and supporting it with recommendations on the integration of the renewable energy sources into the system and power grids. Considering the good geographical conditions for wind and solar energy in the south of the country, the Ukrainian government is actively working on increasing the renewable energy generation.

Clean Energy Goals for 2050

Ukraine and Germany have set themselves ambitious energy transition targets. Ukraine has significant natural potential for a "green" transition and is fully capable to reach 70% share of renewable energy sources in electricity production by 2050. Interim goals are set at 25% by 2035. Germany aims to reach at least 80% share of renewable energy in electricity supply by 2050 and up to 45% by 2025.
